EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques)

Gary Craig’s EFT or Tapping is based on the Eastern health practice of acupuncture. This simple yet effective method does NOT use pushing/pulling on the body, needles, pills, or surgery but instead utilizes the body’s energy circuits, or meridian points (see diagram) to release and balance one’s energy system. By simply tapping near the end points of your energy meridians, you can experience some profound changes in your emotional and physical health. What’s more, it is fast, effective and it can be easily and safely practiced by one’s self.

 It can and has been used to free people from emotional issues such as:
* Panic Attacks, phobias or anxiety.
* Negative emotions
* Self-doubt
* Grief
* Anger
* Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), rape or other forms of abuse.

 "March the Spiritual Month"
March represents the spiritual number 7 and this month asks us to look inside and speak our the truth.While we we cannot control our world around us we can certainly control how we  respond. Truly, we have the right to stand in our spiritual truth. Have you ever noticed that the times that you shut your throat chakra down, you felt a lump in your throat or came down with a sore throat? We are given this chakra for a reason and when we repress it, we may feel some physical symptom when it is shut down.

That being said, I want to make it clear that we should not just take off the governor. I believe that when you connect to your Higher Self or Higher Guidance, the right words seemingly come to you. If you feel that you are unable to be truthful and feel repressed I would suggest the following:
KC: Even though I am not safe standing in my truth, I deeply and completely accept myself. (Repeat three times.)
Now, take a moment and connect your mind and Higher Self. What words are coming to you? Why are you holding back from standing in your truth? Are you safe to speak your truth? Is it ok to speak your truth? What is your belief around this? Speak your truth as you tap this round and then measure what is coming up for you...

When we are speaking our truth, we feel the freedom to become more of who we inherently are: God self. I wish you peace and joy on this beautiful day!

"EFT and ACOA (Adult Children of Alcoholics) ... How to use Tapping to find Emotional Freedom"

“Growing up” in the shadow of alcoholics was never complete. While I grew up physically, I learned that did not grow up emotionally and to this day, there are times where I still find myself asking, “What is it like to be normal?” In our house, abnormal was normal. It was violent, raw and rage was always bubbling just below the surface. I learned to be hyper-vigilent every waking and non-waking moment of my day. I learned and quickly adopted new ways of thinking, feeling, and acting. I learned to react not act. It was twice as hard for me sometimes because psychically I knew what was coming or knew "something" wasn't right. Nowadays when shaken and stirred, I still might respond with gut reactions gleaned from survival lessons learned as a child. 

In my struggle to find some normalcy, I found some research I'd like to share with you. When I  first read it many years ago, a wave of relief came over me: I was not alone. I thanked God for the information that unlooked so many doors for me... answered so many questions for me. I also thank God later in life for Melody Beattie. She wrote the book, "Co-dependant No More." For me the book was a revelation and it offered me relief.

In 1983, Dr. Janet Woititz, developed a list of 13 common traits of Adult Children of Alcoholics (more commonly known by the acronym ACOA.) While these traits are general whereby some may apply and others may not, you may recognize some of them:

Adult Children of Alcoholics…

•                 guess at what normal is.

•                 have difficulty in following a project through from beginning to end.


•                 lie when it would be just as easy to tell the truth.


•                 judge themselves without mercy.

•                 
have difficulty having fun.


•                 take themselves very seriously.


•                 have difficulty with intimate relationships.

•                 overreact to changes over which they have no control.


•                 constantly seek approval and affirmation.


•                 feel that they are different from other people.


•                 are either super responsible or super irresponsible.


•                 are extremely loyal, even in the face of evidence that loyalty is undeserved.


•                 tend to lock themselves into a course of action without giving serious consideration to alternative behaviors or possible consequences. This impulsivity leads to confusion, self- loathing, and loss of control of their environment. As a result, they spend tremendous amounts of time cleaning up the mess.


Still there are other characteristics you might identify with. In 1978, Tony A., published what he called “The List.”  It is comprised of traits commonly exhibited by ACOA. According to Tony A's list, many adult children of alcoholics can:

•                 Become isolated

•                 Fear people and authority figures

•                 Become approval seekers

•                 Be frightened of angry people

•                 Be terrified of personal criticism

•                 Become alcoholics, marry them or both

•                 View life as a victim

•                 Have an overwhelming sense of responsibility

•                 Be concerned more with others than themselves

•                 Feel guilty when they stand up for themselves

•                 Become addicted to excitement

•                 Confuse love and pity

•                 'Love' people who need rescuing

•                 Stuff their feelings

•                 Lose the ability to feel

•                 Have low self-esteem

•                 Judge themselves harshly

•                 Become terrified of abandonment

•                 Do anything to hold on to a relationship

•                 Become "para-alcoholics" without drinking

•                 Become reactors instead of actors

As a child of 2 adult alcoholics, I invite you look at a technique that was developed almost 2 decades ago. It was designed by Gary Craig and Adrienne Fowlie to help humanity find emotional freedom and it is called Emotional Freedom Techniques or Tapping. I have been personally using this effect and easy-t0-use tapping technique for the past year and, so far, the results has been surprisingly effective.

With each event that I address, I find that not only does it bring me to a place of understanding and forgiveness but I have developed a deeper sense of compassion, not only for myself but for my parents and siblings, as well. It has helped me to address my incapacity to love, childhood fears and issues of control amoung other things, and I am left with an unending spiritual peace... emotional freedom if you will. 

The beauty of EFT is that it is not an either or therapy modality. It can be and is currently combined with various therapy modalities as well as allopath medicine.  As I continue my journey to wellness I continue to share with other ACOC’s what has worked well for me.  I hope that you will consider EFT as an effective tool in finding your personal emotional freedom.

"Taking Control... An adult child of Alcoholics looks back and finds Emotional Freedom...
As I continue to work on my daily Personal Peace Procedure, I continue to be amazed at the effectiveness of EFT. Yesterday I choose to work on issues surrounding my parent's alcoholism. It was a powerful place to sit in and even though I was overcome with overwhelming grief and sadness, I addressed and worked through some issues of control. What came up for me was surprising...

As a child the only thing I could do to make certain my world was safe was to be in control. That meant being able to read faces and read all of the family situations and become adaptive at all costs. I also realized that in order for my parents to spend time with me, I had to be on stage and so I also used talent as a form of manipulation or if you will, control. If I could just be good enough, pretty enough, enough of enough they would spend time with me and not their wine. The problem was, it just never lasted long enough. So, like many of children of alcoholics, I felt that I caused them to drink. It was all my fault. 

After using the *Holistic Method of EFT whereby I addressed the control issue at the physical, spiritual, belief and emotional levels, I realized that I could have done all of the same and NOTHING would have stopped them and that their alcohol issues were never about me. (*After grounding and tuning into these levels, the gateway to the subconscious opens and all of the emotion and pain we've stuffed surfaces. That is when the real work begins.)

So I offer this to you... do the work. Go to the places that scare the hell out of you. Today I feel as if a boulder has been lifted off of my shoulders and I have once again found my emotional freedom.

There's a new Guru in the house…

I cannot stress this enough… You do NOT need anything or anyone outside of you to make you feel better, be better or to help you live a better lifestyle.

When you receive a blessing from a Guru, know that you will receive Divine Intelligence – a blessing that will do what is needed and it will know where it should go to help you in the best way possible – in other words, for your best and highest good. That being said, a blessing does not mean that you board a life raft to cling to for the rest of your mortal life. WE should never give our power away to anyone – even if the title Guru is attached to his/her name.

Remember… Gurus are human… they have human faults and needs just like the rest of us. While Gurus may possess a higher Divine Consciousness some of them are driven by ego. Power plus ego can be a dangerous combination…

Lastly, I know it’s hard to remain objective… It’s hard to when things are shifting for you and putting you in a better place.  It’s hard not to get attached to someone when we are in total awe of their “gifts.” Use caution here… If you find yourself absolutely needing a continual blessing even at the cost of your life savings or even worse creating credit card debt, please stop and step outside the picture. There you will find objectivity and regain your common sense and perspective.

How do I know? I just stepped outside and the view is much clearer…

Today's tapping sequence: I am not perfect... but then neither is anyone else!
Remember to do these things before, during and after you tap each round:  
1. To take a measure of where you are when you start the sequence, 10 being the highest emotional response, 0 being the lowest.
2. Drink water.
3. Take 2 deep breaths after each round.
4. Take a measure of where you are after each round of tapping.
5. If you are not to zero, continue tapping and when you have cleared the emotion, then at that time, replace it with the positive round. DO NOT do it before then or it will NOT work!

KC: "Even though there are times that I feel that someone else has all of the answers, I deeply and completely accept where I am today. Even though there may be times that I believe that someone else is perfect and they alone can solve all of my problems for me, I deeply and profoundly accept myself anyway. Even though my life seems out of control and I'd like someone else to take all of life's lessons away from me, I deeply and profoundly accept where I am today."

EB: I know that my life is not perfect.
SE: I accept that I am not perfect.
UE: I accept that I go to others who seem perfect for all the perfect answers to solve my life's problems.
UN: I know that they will have all the perfect answers that I need.
Chin: I just can't be perfect like everyone else and that frustrates me!
CB: I know that I can't seem to come up with the perfect answers.
UA: I know that I am never perfect and will never be perfect.
TH: I know that I can't trust myself because I am not perfect.

Now, check in... have you gone down in emotion? Rate it from 0-10. Has any new emotion or feeling come up for in words or in a feeling in your body? Take notes... Tap again using your own words and get to zero.

This is the positive round:
EB: All that I need is right here inside of me! 
SE: I don't need any other outside source to make me feel perfect.
UE: Perfect doesn't exist and when I try to to be perfect, I set myself up for failure.
UN: I accept myself just the way I am.
Chin: I accept myself just the way I am.
CB: I choose to find a place of healing and learn to accept myself just the way I am.
UA: I choose to find a way to be a peace with myself just the way I am.
TH: I choose to relax and let go and find a healing place within myself...

Remember... there is NO one here on earth that is perfect... We are all here to experience life on OUR own terms -- no one else's!

Today is a day of manifestation. The powerful “antennas” of number 11 pull what you want toward you so all that you need to do is take action. The real question is, are you ready to do the inner work necessary to pull it off? If so, let’s get started!

First, you need to make a list of events of that are causing you emotional distress. The further you can think back the better. Now, write them all down. If you don’t have a particular emotion around an event, guess. Usually your subconscious will help you come up with the answer. As you tap, you will most likely start to bring up other events.

Next, you need the means to clean the inner gunk out! Enter EFT. Why? Because EFT addresses drivers such as stress and sabotage that cause your energy to become blocked. Once these are addressed, you in turn receive Emotional Freedom! Think of it as an emotional roter-roter, that when used, can provide great results!

Now, onto Tapping. Start by making up a set-up statement that includes a negative and positive statement surrounding an event. Be specific not global. You will get greater relief if you hone in on one event. Using your set-up statement, start at the KC and tap there three times. After you are finished, start at the EB and go all the way around stopping on top of the head.

Next, go back to the event. Do you notice a shift of emotional charge around the situation as you think about it? Has the charge decreased or increased. If the emotional charge is not down to zero, tap again on the KC using the statement, “Even though I still have some of this ______ emotion, I deeply and completely accept myself.” Starting at the EB and ending up on the head, do another full round of Tapping. At the end, take a cleansing breath and grab a bit of water. Again, take an emotional assessment of the charge. If it is down to zero you are done and can move onto a new event. If not, keep Tapping until you get to zero!

Your Transformational Dictonary
Do you have the power of a transformational dictionary? Our words reflect how we feel about our self and the world around us. Take inventory… In any given day, do you use more negative or positive words when you express yourself? Do you use words that empowerment your energy or displace it. Do the words you use enhance your image or take away from it.

New Year Manifestation
As we step into the New Year, many people have asked me, “What is the most important thing we need to know about in order to manifest what we desire.” The answer to that question is the Universal Laws. In order to manifest what we desire, we must strive to understand how the Laws work and how they affect us. 

Let me first explain what the Universal Laws are. The Universal Laws are all inter-related and are founded on the understanding that everything in the Universe is energy, including us, and that energy moves in a circular fashion. Our thoughts, feeling, emotions and actions are all energy. What we think, feel, say and do in each moment comes back to us in the form of our reality. The good news is that we have the power and capacity to transform our world just by controlling and changing our belief system. As we change our belief system, we then learn to co-create with the Universe. 

While on the topic of Manifestation, I thought this might be a good time to invite you to work with the Laws. As we learn about them, I invite you start a notebook and/or journal. You’ll be using it to truthfully answer some important questions pertaining to your lifestyle and beliefs. Your answers will help you fully understand where your limiting personal beliefs come from and they in turn will help you break through the barriers that keep you from fulfilling your personal mission. Another important part of keeping notes is that they will also become a tangible progress report. It’s something that you can actually hold in your hands and reference time and time again. 

Of all of the different modalities I've tried, and I've tried a few, many of the profound changes that I've made in my life have come through EFT. As you can tell from my past blogs I am pretty transparent with my viewers and I expect this to be no different. There may be times where I am going to share some personal experiences with you and I may even bring up some totally new concepts that may even shake your world a bit. In that case, please take what you feel is right for you and leave the rest. So, if you are still reading this, onward!

Right out of the gate, I want to address your “non-belief” in what I am going to share with you. I think it is important to be totally honest here. I know that many of you have tried all sorts of new methods and motivators and watched the Secret only to be disappointed that they didn’t work for you for some reason or another. I’ve done the same. So right now, let’s Tap on how you truly feel about the past and/or products or methods you’ve tried. Remember, EFT is about Tapping on the truth of how we feel. Again the set-up statement is created with a negative and then a positive statement and preps us for the work that needs to be done. There is no right or wrong way to word it as long as your statement is truthful and it contains both a negative and a positive statement. 

Note: Before Tapping, take a measure of how you feel 10 being the highest and 0 being the lowest. You will take a measure of how you feel after each round. Also record anything that comes up for you after each round in your notebook. Hopefully you will Tap daily. If not, remember to record the date and the time of day that you tapped. You may find that if you Tap in the morning you have more energy or vise-a-versa. We will start with the Karate Chop:

KC. “Even though I have tried the Secret and other methods to manifest what I desire and they’ve never worked for me, I deeply and completely accept myself. Even though those methods made great promises and I took the bait and bought them and bought into them, I deeply and completely accept myself. Even though I view all of these products as gimmicks, I deeply and completely accept myself.” 

Next, tap the Meridian points starting with the EB and ending on the Top of the Head with the truth of how you feel. Example:
EB: All those manifestation products are a sham. 

SE. They’ve never worked for me.

UE: I used a ton of them and they didn’t work for me.

UN:  I wish I had just saved my money.

CH: What a waste of time.

CB: I wish I could get that all that time and money back.

UA: I am still where I was before I wasted all that time and money.

TH: What a bunch of baloney that was.

Now, reassess how you feel. Has anything shifted for you? If not go another round until you feel that you’ve come down to zero. Then, revisit the statements you’ve tapped on. Did anything coming up for you either in your body or mind? Write those down, you’ll Tap on those next. 

As you come down in number then you will replace those negative statements with “What If” statements. These types of statements put us in the receptive mode and  they open up to possibilities. Try this starting with the KC: “Even though the past methods to manifest what I desired didn’t work, I accept myself any way. Even though they might not work again, I deeply accept myself anyway. Even though I didn’t succeed before, I deeply accept myself anyway.”

EB: What if I open myself to possibilities.

SE: What if this time I succeed.

UE: What if choose to make this a fun exercise.

UN: What if I take it easy on myself. 

CH: What if I learn something along the way.

CB: What if I choose to enjoy the process of self-discovery.

UA: What if I do this for me.

TH: What if I just choose to try.

If after saying the last statement and you believe this to be true, you are done tapping. If you still have doubts, record what is coming up for you and Tap again.

Forgiveness
A tapping point to be aware of is the forgiveness point, which is located on the inside of either index finger at the base of the fingernail bed. You may tap this point using your thumb or dominant hand.

As you tap there try to recall a specific event. First, take a measure of how you feel about the incident 10 being the highest and 0 being the lowest. After completing each round of Tapping, you will measure if the emotion or feelings in your body have come down in number. Next, ask the Universe for forgiveness for yourself first. Next, ask for forgiveness for anyone else who may have been involved in the incident. Note: Do these rounds separatelyAfter each round of tapping, revisit the incident and take measure of how it still may affect you. If you can’t recall the incident with emotion, you may have very well cleared it. If there is still a charge left or if another emotion comes up, write that down. You will tap on it next.

Planning
Every New Year, many of us, making weight-loss resolutions only to find out that 95% of the time we don’t stick to our plans. Why? Part of the answer lies in congruency and the other because we have not addressed the drivers that cause us to overeat.

So what does that mean in terms of losing weight? First we’ll address congruency. It means that in order to be congruent, or in other words in accordance with weight loss, YOU must be totally honest with yourself! Ask yourself, “Do ‘I’ want to lose the weight or am I doing this because of some outside force.” Maybe you are trying to please your partner or impress others. Remember, no one can force you to lose weight pure and simple. You must decide that enough is enough and then you must act in accordance with doing something about it.

Now, let’s address the drivers. This it what literally what drives us to eat and there can be many factors. These questions get to the root of the drivers:

What emotions come up for you currently about how you use food?

What feelings or anxiety drive that behavior?

What guilt or self-hatred comes up for you when you exhibit that behavior?

What incidents have come up for you around food or food behaviors?

How did your family act around food?

What would the upside be if you were to lose weight?

What would the down side be if you were to lose weight?

You see, often times losing weight leaves us feeling vulnerable, afraid and unsafe. Many times we are afraid to call up the real reason why we eat. Maybe eating is a form of control.  In my case and like many other children of alcoholics, I found that food was the only thing I could control. While I chose not to drink consciously, food became an unconscious choice. I honestly didn’t really give it much thought until a therapist brought it to my attention.

EFT has helped me make tremendous headway with food. I now see it as a meal instead of a mechanism and it helped me understand how and why I ate and it gave me an appreciation of food that I never had before. Until then, my mantra had always been, “Enough is never enough.” Funny, that is how I saw my entire life until I faced my demons with food. I still struggle with it now and then but I also know that I have a wonderful tool to help me cope with the emotion surrounding it: EFT.

Manifestation Part II
So what do you do about changing your belief system? Try this:

1.     Write down the limiting beliefs that you have.

2.     Listen to your inner guidance that comes up as you say your statement(s.)

3.     Ask yourself, what past experiences have reinforced your beliefs. Maybe your parents used to remark that “only rich people are dishonest” or “We can’t afford that.”

4.     Use EFT to clear any limiting beliefs so that you can see them in a different light.

5.     Starting at the KC, “Even though I believe that rich people are dishonest, I choose to believe that not all rich people act this way. In fact, I know many rich people like Bill Gates, use their wealth to help others prosper” or “Even though my parents used to say that we couldn’t afford things, I know that I can make wise choices when it comes to spending money. Even though my parents used to say that we couldn’t afford things and I adopted that belief, I know that I can  afford many things but I choose not to spend money on them.”

As you clear your beliefs about money you then have a choice then to fill your void and Tap into your Meridian points these positive statements:

1.     I have enough and will always have enough.

2.     I am grateful for the money I had, currently have and the money I will make.

3.     I am in charge of my money. My money is not in charge of me.

4.     I am not in lack.

5.     I am open to all possibilities.

Manifestation Part I of II
As many of you know, I am also a student of numerology. Today I’d like to explain a little bit about 1-1-11. In terms of numerology, 1-1-11 are considered significant numbers. If you add the numbers up (1+1+1+1) they equal 4, which in numerology means earth, foundation, stability and manifestation. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT AS THIS IS THE YEAR WE SET THE FOUNDATION FOR THE NEXT 9 TO COME! The double 11’s are considered to be portals and today, you have two! So today you are invited to walk through the portals of manifestation and what a better time than NOW to talk about that very topic.

A few years ago, Rhonda Byrn, wrote the international best seller, “The Secret.” It caused a lot of controversy because the premise was that you could attain all you asked for just by learning what the secret was and applying it. If you haven’t figured it out already, the Secret was based on the Universal Law of Attraction. The Law of Attraction demonstrates how we create the things, events, and people that come into our lives. Our thoughts, feelings, words and actions produce energies which, in turn, attract like energies. Negative energies attract negative energies and positive energies attract positive energies. Why did it cause so much controversy? I believe that it was because the movie left out the actual secret, which is, that before the Universe can fill our “abundance” order, we need to be prepared mentally, spiritually and physically to receive positive energy.

Again, the Law states, all that we demonstrate through feelings, words and actions produce energies which in turn attract like energy… so as we ask for more abundance and we have not yet worked on clearing up our abundance issues, we will get more of what we already have. Why? Because the universe is neutral and it cannot tell happiness from hunger and ultimately we get more of the same wherever you happen to be that day.

So, how does EFT come into play? Well, I believe that EFT is an effective tool to help us clear out our negative beliefs surrounding abundance. As we address and clear up what is creating our negative reactions to wealth and personal abundance, we create a void. As we create a void, it creates an opportunity to fill it with positive beliefs. So I ask you, what are your limiting beliefs about abundance? Again, the word “abundance” is used subjectively here and it can be applied to material as well as spiritual abundance. Here is a sampling of limiting beliefs you may have:
“All rich people are dishonest.”
“I can’t be rich and be spiritual.”
“I can’t charge money for my services in order to be spiritual.”
“Only poor people go to heaven.”

What if Today?
Well, today’s the last day of 2010. As we move into the New Year my hope is to inspire you to live as if anything is possible.  Today let’s tap on What If Today…

EB: What if today, I open myself to all possibilities…

SE: What if today, I stopped worrying and started wondering…

UE: What if today, I move into action – taking it day-by-day…

UN: What if today I wrote a list of everything I wanted…

CH: What if today, I took one thing I on my list and actually did something with it…

CB: What if today, I put aside the “I can’t do this” belief and started believing that “I can”…

UA: What if today, I dare to dream and in doing so address what’s keeping me stuck…

TH: What if today is the day I do all of these things and see where life takes me!

EFT is a wonderful tool to help you change your belief system. As you work with the “What if” statements, see what comes up for you emotionally or in your body. That is your starting point.

Remember to start at the KC and make up a set-up statement pairing a negative statement with a positive statement and tap on it 3 times. (Example) “Even though I am stuck and can’t seem to get motivated, I deeply and completely accept myself.” Better yet, can you think of a time someone said or did something that you can relate to feeling stuck? If nothing is coming up, it’s okay to guess at it.

Next, starting with the EB and ending with the TH state a reminder phrase (Example) “Being Stuck.” At the end of your tapping sequence, take a deep breath and see how you feel or what emotions come up for you. Write that down and you can work on that emotion next. If you are not down to zero on “Being Stuck” you still have more work to do…

Go through the sequence again and tap saying, “This remaining …” Again, take a measure of where you are and see if you have come down in emotion. Important: Keep tapping until you are at zero!  If you find yourself not having any emotional charge as you think of being stuck, take a look at your notes and see what emotions came up for you. Work on those next.

Keep tapping until you feel you’ve resolved all the emotions around “Being Stuck.”

EFT Quick Fix Spots
In a hurry to do EFT? Here are the "quick fix" spots to tap on:
On top of the head: This is the main contact point for all of the Meridians.
Wrists: This is where your watch band goes - use 2 or more fingers to tap on the entire area or cross one wrist over the other facing inside and tap. This point has three major meridians that are great for stress, grief and sadness.
Liver Point: Under breast (on the rib cage approximately 2 inches below the nipple.) This point addresses sadness, cravings, depression and anger.

"Before you can move others, you must first move yourself..."
We are just a few days away from another new year. Typically it is a time when we grow introspective and set out on a new road to success. Have you ever made a New Year’s resolution to start an exercise program or to loose weight but soon find out that it takes more than words to get the ball rolling? You have all the knowledge and willpower to do so yet something inside will not allow you to budge. While this makes no logical sense maybe the part that is missing is the “permission” to do so. 

I know it sounds funny as most of us are now adults, but think about it… most of our childhood was spent getting permission from our caretakers! Unfortunately, some adults never move from the phase of asking to doing because they still feel the need to gain permission to start. 

Today, let’s take a look at that from an EFT prospective. Read the first sentence and notice what belief(s) comes up for you? Ask yourself these questions to get to the meaning of “needing permission”:

1. Needing permission, what is that like?

2. And what does (your answer here) remind you of? 

The following statements are global but you can use the information you’ve just accessed and plug it in to the set-up statement.

1. Starting at the KC, say: “Even though I can’t give myself permission to move forward with my life, I deeply and completely accept myself. Even though I believe I must have permission to enjoy my life, I choose to be open to new possibilities. Even though I don’t have permission to enjoy my life, I deeply and completely accept who I am anyway.

2. Now go through and tap all the Meridian points starting at the EB point and finishing on the Top of the Head or TH. Take a deep breath, grab a glass of water and sit for a moment. What charge or emotion comes up for you as you think back to the statement, “I need permission to enjoy my life.” As emotions come up, take note. Those are the next emotions to work on.

3. If the emotional charge still has not cleared, there is still more work to be done. First, let's re-word the set up statement: Starting at the EB say, "Even though I STILL have some of this permission challenge left, I deeply and completely accept myself. Repeat 2 more times...

4. Starting at the EB, go through your tapping sequence. Again after each sequence, stop and take a deep breath, grab a drink of water and sit for a moment. If it is still not cleared keep tapping. We want to make sure that your emotional level gets to zero on this belief before moving on to another aspect. 

Above all, please remember this... just by the fact you are here right now, you were born with permission to be your self. Know beyond all question that your life is a miracle waiting to unfold!

Optimist's Creed
I came across the Optimist's Club Creed the other day and if you haven't read it before, it is inspiring. Optimist Clubs are dedicated to "Bringing out the Best in Kids and do their part through community service programs. They see a need in their community and react to it. 

You too can become an Optimist! Make a commitment every day to tap and work on the areas in your life that you would like to reframe. Establish your own creed or personal code to live and thrive by. Ask yourself, "What areas in my life will I commit to working at to make not only a difference to myself and in doing so, affect my community at large." Here now is the Optimist Creed: (In some sentences I've added the words "I am committed" or "I will" to enhance it for EFT.) 
  • To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. (I am so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind.)

  • To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet. ( I will talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person I meet.)

  • To make all your friends feel that there is something in them. ( I am committed to make all my friends feel that there is something in them.)

  • To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. (I am committed to look at the sunny side of everything and make my optimism come true.)

  • To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best. (I am committed to think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.)

  • To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. (I am committed to be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own.)

  • To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. (I am committed to forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.)

  • To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. (I am committed to wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature I meet a smile.)

  • To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. (I am committed to giving so much time to the improvement of MYSELF that I have NO time to criticize others.)

  • To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble. ( I am committed to be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.)

    At the end of your tapping session, take a deep breath, grab a glass of water and sit for a moment. Think back... did anything of the statements cause you to have a negative emotional response? If yes... that's a tappable issue. Take that sentence and work on it... Tell the truth about how you feel about the sentence. This is an example:

    1. Starting at the KC make a setup statement: "Even though I can't forget the mistakes of the past, I deeply and completely accept myself. Even though I hold onto the mistakes I've made in the past, I choose to find an effective new way of forgiving myself. Even though I can't forget the mistakes of the past, I accept who I am and how I feel."

    2. Starting at the EB point and tap a reminder phrase, "The mistakes of the past." This is important because as our emotional charge lessens, our mind tends to wander off.  The reminder phrase is repeated to keep you focused on your emotional state. That is why EFT is so effective. While tapping, you bring to mind and release negative and emotional issues, physical issues thought patterns and/or behavior. It won't take away your natural responses to life issues, but it will take away unhealthy responses. Our subconscious cannot tell the difference between whether an event is happening now or in the past. 

    3. After each round of tapping, take a deep breath and see what comes up for you. Repeat the statement. Does it feel clear or is there still some emotional charge? If so, tap again until you feel the emotional charge has been brought to zero.

Inspirational Moment: John Wooden
  • When John Wooden, the great UCLS basketball coach, gradated from grade school at age twelve, his father gave him a seven-point creed. John said that this creed had been one of the most powerful influences on his entire life and career. It's a creed he lived by every single day. **I've personalize this Creed by adding "I can... to the front of each statement: John Wooden's Seven Point Creed, "Making the most of Oneself"
  • KC: Be true to yourself. (I can be true to myself.)
    EB: Make each day your masterpiece. (I can make each day a masterpiece.)
    SE: Help others. (I can help others.)
    UE: Drink deeply from good books... (I can drink deeply from good books.) (BTW: They are free to borrow from the Library!) 
    Chin: Make friendship a fine art. (I can make friendship and art.)
    CB: Build a shelter against a rainy day. (I can build shelter against a rainy day.)
    UA: Pray for guidance and give thanks for your blessings every day. (I can pray for guidance and give thanks for my blessings every day.)

    At the end of your tapping session, take a deep breath and a drink of water. Then sit for a minute and listen to any guidance you may have received and/or negative remark(s) come up for you. That is where you begin the work of cleaning up and clearing out. 

    1.  As always, start at the KC point and tap. The following is an example of some negative talk you might hear or feel in your body:
    KC: "Even though I know my day won't be a masterpiece, I deeply and completely accept myself. Even though I can't see how this might happen, I choose to let it be easy. Even though I know I won't have a masterpiece day, I deeply and completely accept myself anyway."
    2.  Now, start at the EB point and let it rip. Just go through internal dialogue. Finish at the top of the head. 
    3.  At the end of tapping all of the Meridian points, take a deep breath and drink a glass of water. Now, sit and observe how you feel or what emotion has come up or down in your body whether it is emotional or just in your body.
    4. Not down to zero yet? Tap again and really focus on your KC statement: "Even though I STILL carry some of this negative beliefs that I will not have a masterpiece day, I deeply and completely accept myself where I am. Even though I STILL can't believe I will have a masterpiece day, I choose to be open to possibilities. Even though I STILL can't believe I can have a masterpiece day, I deeply and completely accept myself where I am right now."
    5. Tap through all the Meridian points again and open yourself to the truth of the statement: "This remaining masterpiece belief..."
    6. Take another deep breath and drink of water and see how you feel. Say the statement again: Make each day your masterpiece. Observe what comes up. If you are down to zero you have cleared this belief. If something else comes up for you, tap again.
You see, EFT speaks the truth about where you are in your life. Maybe somewhere in your life you were told you life wasn't going to be easy! If we have this belief and carry it around with us, chances are we may never feel like life isn't going to be easy nor is it going to look like a masterpiece! There's hope... keep tapping!

Norman Vincent Peale: The Power of Positive Thinking
  • This is a short but powerful paragraph that I found inside of Norman Vincent Peale's book, The Power of Positive Thinking." This book was instrumental in helping me get through a very painful and lonely time in my life. After reading this book, my life turned around considerably. I hope that you will find a copy (remember to visit your local library) and read it as it offers timeless pearls of wisdom. 

  • HOW TO USE IT: I believe it is easier to integrate positive tapping into your daily hygiene routine. I tap after brushing my teeth morning and night. In front of a mirror (This is powerful and increases the effect) tap along the meridian points for 3 ROUNDS saying these sentences with gusto! Feel free to change the word God/He to any word that works for you ie. Universe, Mother/Father God, etc.:
  • Karate Chop: I believe this is going to be a wonderful day!


    Eye brow: I believe I can successfully handle all problems that will arise today!

    
Side of eye: I feel good physically, mentally, emotionally!

    
Under eye: It is wonderful to be alive!

    
Under nose: I am grateful for all that I have had, for all that I have, and for all that I shall have!


    Chin: Things aren't going to fall apart.


    Collarbone: God is here and He is with me and He will see me through! 
Under Arm: I thank God for every good thing. 


    Top of Head: Thank you...

    (The top of the head is the meeting point of a Hundred Meeting Points of Meridian and is considered the EFT "Sweet Spot."  When we tap it releases the: Inner critic, lack of focus, and gerbil wheel thinking. It then allows: Insight, intuition, spiritual connection, focus wisdom, spiritual discernment, and clarity. 

    


Now, notice after you say each sentence out loud, how does this sound or feel to you? What’s the intensity and the NEGATIVE dialogue that comes up. An example might be: I believe this is going to be a wonderful day! and your negative talk says, "Yeah, but what about dealing with Nancy from work. She sure is mean to me..." This is where the true work with EFT begins. We start to recognize and speak our truth...



    1. Start with the KC (Karate Chop) and say... "Even though I have anger issues with Nancy, I deeply and completely accept myself anyway. Even though I am angry with Nancy, I choose to accept myself anyway. Even though I am very angry with Nancy, I choose to be open to possibilities of getting along with her better."



    2. Starting with the EB point, open up to your inner dialogue. Speak your truth about the situation with Nancy.

    3. At the end of tapping all of the Meridian points, observe how you feel or what emotion has come up or down in intensity in your body. 


    4. Now revisit how you feel about the statement, "I believe this is going to be a wonderful day even if I have to deal with Nancy."

    5. If any dialogue or feelings come up, start the process again until you have gotten your intensity to zero. 
See what comes up again. If you are down to zero you have cleared this belief. If something else comes up for you, tap again.
